Jonathan Cooperman of Farber Financial Group is First Canadian to Attain Anti-Fraud Asset Recovery CSAR Designation
TORONTO — March 30, 2011– Farber Financial Group, one of Canada’s most respected corporate and financial services firms, is pleased to announce that the leader of its Fraud, Forensic & Asset Recovery practice, Jonathan Cooperman, HBA, CA•CIRP, CSAR is the first Canadian to become certified by the International Association for Asset Recovery (IAAR) as a Certified Specialist in Asset Recovery (CSAR), the world's first credential for anti-fraud asset recovery- professionals.
IAAR believes strongly that private and public sector professionals, primarily investigators, forensic accountants, lawyers and investigative analysts, can improve their skills and knowledge of essential, often obscure, tools that they can use to improve their success in tracing and recovering assets through the CSAR designation.
IAAR notes that with the rate of recovery of amounts stolen by fraudsters being far less than 1 percent, CSAR certified specialists are necessary to help victims of fraud. CSAR specialists are champions who have spent a career trying to make victims whole and take back money from those who hold it improperly.
Cooperman is unique in that, unlike many other anti-fraud specialists, he is a licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy in Canada and often acts as a Court-Appointed Receiver with extensive powers in Canada and around the world as an officer of the Court. “For example, we can be called into a case by a law firm or another fraud investigator – such as a matrimonial or shareholder dispute, or a Ponzi scheme – where it is necessary to seize the assets of one of the parties and investigate the fraudulent activity,” said Cooperman. “While law enforcement agencies look to secure criminal convictions against fraudsters, our objective is to recover the proceeds of a fraud for victims.”
“CSAR specialists are experts at locating and recovering the proceeds of fraud, corruption and other crimes,” said Charles A. Intriago, the founder of IAAR. “These skills are desperately needed by professionals worldwide who work as trustees, receivers, attorneys, liquidators, special assets officials at banks, information specialists, intelligence analysts, special investigative unit personnel at insurance companies and other professionals in related fields, as well as government officials such as special agents, prosecutors, detectives and other law enforcement professionals who have the responsibility of winning back the proceeds of crime.”
“Farber Financial Group has spent many years investigating all aspects of financial fraud – usually by the deliberate decisions and actions of unethical and unscrupulous people who handle the money and other assets of unsuspecting individuals or companies,” said Cooperman. “Our goal is the recovery of these funds or properties – whether here in Canada or around the world.”
The CSAR program covers areas such as best practices in asset recovery, asset freezing, legal considerations in asset recovery, financial flow analysis for tracing assets, investigative techniques, working with the rules of evidence, information and document management, managing an asset recovery team, and the ethics of the recovery process as it applies to the agencies and victims involved.
